Who is Baby X?

Baby X is an indie rock band from the Blue Mountains, Australia about 2 hours west of Sydney. James Forbes sings and plays guitar, Dean Andersen plays bass and keys and Drew Courtney is on drums.

When did you start playing?

The band formed in 2008. James and Drew used to be in a prior band that started in high school called Coke Bugs. Dean and James used to send each other their rough recordings over MSN Messenger and MySpace after a few jams on nylon string guitars the idea was struck to form a band.

Has the line up ever changed?

Technically... James and Drew were having a fight when the band started so Nathanael Tarlau was briefly the drummer. Dean left the band for some years to focus on other projects but during that time Drew and James stopped gigging and instead jammed occasionally.

What does Baby X mean?

A friend of the band was very drunk at a Carhole party. He was reading a text outloud. At one point he kept repeating "I FUCKING LOVE YOU BABY X!" - reading the "X" outloud.

We thought it was hilarious!

What other projects have you been involved in?

Drew and James used to play in a band called Coke Bugs from 2005-2007 which included Felix and William Stolz who later formed Giraffe Season.

James sometimes plays as a solo artist under the name jmsfbs which is his name without vowels (very clever!). Previously he's played as Gaze Vectors.

Drew and Dean are also in a band called The Water Board and Dean also plays in Lunar Tide.
